In the individual races Eleanor Nelson came 1st in the 13yrs girls 50m freestyle in a personal best time. There were 2nd places for Evie Trolle-Mainland (9yrs Freestyle - shown below), Alistair Jones (9yrs Breaststroke), Alexandra Casseldon (9yrs Breaststroke), James Billam (11yrs Fly) with an excellent Personal best, Chloe Mawer also impressed in the corresponding girls event. Harry Stockdale did well to finish 2nd in the boys 13yrs Backstroke as this is not his best stroke.
Michael Forster(below) swam well in the 50m Breaststroke to beat his long standing personal best. Many other swimmers also recorded personal bests.
Medley Relay (Chloe Mawer, Faith Sheekey, Hannah Greenwood, Fiona Lloyd) placing 1st, also 1st were the girls mixed‘cannon’ race, consisting of 2 girls from each age group.(Alexandra Casseldon, Emilia Wright, Faith Sheekey, Hannah Greenwood, Eleanor Nelson and Rebecca Sanderson), as did the boys in their event (Sam Hartley, Daniel Hield, James Billam, Alfie Hall, James Lucas ,Harry Stockdale). Other teams makin gthe top 2 were; Girls 13 yrs Breaststroke relay; Girls 9 yrs Medley relay; Boys 11 yrs Medley relay and the girls 9yrs freestyle relay.
Four clubs competed in the gala with South Hunsley finishing 3rd , there were only 19 points separating all four teams. The gala provided valuable experience for the swimmers involved. The club recently held their elections for the male and female club captains. Voting for both was very close with Sasha Vladimirov winning the male captaincy from Jacob Fuller and Ryan Arnott and Sarah Philipson winning the female voting from Emily Adlard
The club is also introducing a ‘masters’ section for competitive swimmers age 18+ to be run three nights a week. More information is available from the club.
South Hunsley Swimming Club got there 40th Anniversary year off to a flying start, when they won there 1st Pocklington Times Swimming League gala of the year in convincing fashion.
With 21 individual pb’s out of the 31individual races in ages ranging from 9 to 16. It was great to see all the hard work through the winter paying off. The swimmers placed in the top 2 in 37 of the 48 races. For some of the youngest swimmers this was their first taste of competition at this level. Edward Vickers, Matthew Lyons, Matthew O’Neil and Jack Hartwell gave great performances for the under 11 boys as did Bethany Edwards, Rebecca Street, Maddy Taylor-West and Katie Sagar for the under 11 girls. Other notable performances were Laszlo Karsai who improved over 3 seconds on his 100 breaststroke time, Ben Martin in the 100m Backstroke, and Rebecca Sanderson, Emily Lyons and Emily Vickers who all improved their 100m Butterfly Times. The next gala for the club in this series is their home gala on 28th April when they play host to: Rossington, Knottingley and Pocklington.
The following day at the 1st (and possibly the last, due to lack of volunteers) Hull and District of 2012 the club once again had a plethora of PB’s. The evening started with awards for top boy/girl in each age group from 2011. Edward Vickers won the boys 9 years age group and Jonathan Wilkes the boys 14 years. (To the right)
1st time Hull and Dist swimmers Ellie Hextall, Matthew Lyons and Finley Pickering gave outstanding performances. Ellie overcame her nerves and won both the 9yrs girls 25m breaststroke and 9ys Individual medley. Matthew gained 2 silver medals in the corresponding boys event and Finley won the boys 9 yrs medley. Maddison Taylor West picked up 2 silver medals in the 11yr girls Individual medley and 100m Breaststroke both in Personal best times. In the boys 15 and over 100m freestyle Jonathan Wilkes and Mike Adlard added to the clubs medal tally with 1st and 2nd place respectively. Abigail Stringer swam strongly to take a silver and bronze in her two races both swum in personal best times. With a total of 40 personal best times both coaches and swimmers went away from the gala very happy.
